The Menil Collection Reopening

The Menil Collection is one of my favorite museums in the city, and I’m thrilled to announce that they just reopened their doors.

I had the chance to stroll around the museum with Sarah Hobson from the communications team and she gave me a wonderful tour of the three new exhibits you don’t want to miss this fall.

The first one we saw was Virginia Jaramillo’s first solo exhibit on her 50-year career called “The Curvilinear Paintings, 1969–1974” which has eight amazing abstract paintings.

The second one was a display of seven installations from Puerto Rican artists Allora and Calzadilla called “Specters of Noon”, which represent the connection between Houston and Puerto Rico as two port cities impacted by climate change and the energy industry.

One of those seven pieces is this one called “Graft” which represents deforestation represented by the hand-painted yellow petals on the gallery floor.

And finally, we saw the new Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries which have some spectacular pieces brought from their collection.

You can’t miss visiting this fabulous museum and also walk around its beautiful premises now that we have such nice weather in Houston.
