Christmas Magic at the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens
/Every year I’m surprised by the immense variety of activities Houston has to offer during the holiday season, and by the many that I have yet to discover. Despite being a faithful follower of each and every one of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts' exhibits, I had never visited the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, a River Oaks mansion that was transformed into a museum in the 1960s.
This house, that is part of the MFAH, features an incredible collection of American art and antiques from Ima Hogg, a prestigious art collector who was better known as "The Lady of Texas." Ima Hogg, (1882-1975). Ima Hogg was also considered one of the most respected women of the 20th century in the United States thanks to her passion for art and for her different philanthropic contributions during her lifetime.
Bayou Bend receives visitors throughout the year, however during the holiday season, the mansion and its gardens are transformed into a magical Christmas village.
A couple of days ago I had the opportunity to go with my family and we had a wonderful evening enjoying its thousands of Christmas lights, decorations, faux snow sledding, games, music and of course, the traditional photo with Santa.
When you visit the Christmas Village of Bayou Bend, don't forget to take the house tour to get an up-close look at one of the most prestigious collections of furniture, silver, paintings, and ceramics from the beginning of the century in America. During the Holidays, the tour is transformed into an interactive story showcasing Santa’s fun adventures.
So, if you are looking for a fun family activity filled with art and magic during this holiday season, visit the Christmas Village at the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens.
Christmas Village at Bayou Bends Collection and Gardens opens to the public at 5:30 pm from Wednesdays to Sundays from December 14th till January 5th.
