Houston Fills with Light
Most years, I spend the Holidays in Mexico, but when I stay in Houston, I’m amazed with how many things you can do in this great city during this time of the year.
If you’re done with your Christmas shopping and the last thing you want to do is spend time in a shopping mall, Yo Mariana recommend you to go see the new outdoor exhibit "Field of Lights" that is now showing at Discovery Green.
Discovery Green is a park that is situated in Downtown Houston and was opened in 2008. It’s an open space that is surrounded by the Convention Center and some other buildings. This space offers several forms of entertainment like an artificial lake where you can rent kayaks during the summer and ice-skate in the winter. They also have some food stands and art sculptures around the park. I had not visited it for some time, but this past weekend I went with my family to see the new exhibit by Bruce Munro.
This original work consists of an installation of lights, which purpose is to transmit the sensation of looking at a field of flowers, and my family and I loved it. To really appreciate it, you should go visit it after the sun goes down.
Bruce Munro is a British artist who studied Art and Design in Australia and his work has been exhibited in London and New York. Let’s take advantage that he is now sharing his work with us here in Houston.
It’s the perfect plan now that the kids will be in their school break, specially since it's a quick and fun exhibit. I also recommend you to take them ice-skating in the outdoor rink and you can all go have dinner afterwards at The Grove’s restaurant terrace where you can enjoy this amazing light installation.
The exhibit is free and will be there until February 8, 2015.
You can’t miss it!
